Why does a smaller country help smaller employers?
This is the advantage most people miss. In larger regional hubs, the biggest global employers can absorb much of the experienced graduate talent. North Macedonia's size means fewer of them have opened large operations there.

What is the talent pool like?
We expected to hire mainly first line support agents. We found a much broader range of roles and experience levels, from technical support and team leads to customer success, marketing support and senior recruitment specialists.
Many candidates have studied on exchange programmes across Europe or worked abroad for one to three years, often in the US or Middle East. For one recruitment client that needed senior recruiters with Gulf market experience, we placed candidates who had lived and worked in Dubai. That kind of regional fluency is a real advantage for clients whose work faces the Gulf.
In our experience, candidates pick up new material quickly and settle into existing client teams well. Our staff turnover runs at around 14%.
How strong is the English?
The standard of spoken English is very high, often with a neutral accent shaped by time spent studying or working elsewhere in Europe. UK clients generally find that accents sit comfortably within the range of UK regional accents. Israeli clients hear clear European English, and that clarity carries through to their US customers.
Is North Macedonia GDPR compliant?
North Macedonia adopted its Law on Personal Data Protection in February 2020, with most provisions applying from August 2021. It is substantially aligned with GDPR and enforced by the national Agency for Personal Data Protection.
As a non EU country, North Macedonia is not covered by an EU adequacy decision, so transfers of personal data from the EU usually rely on standard contractual clauses, and transfers from the UK on the UK's equivalent transfer agreements. This isn't a reason to avoid it. It is standard paperwork for any location outside the EU, and something to confirm with your provider before the team touches customer data.
Where is North Macedonia in the EU accession process?
North Macedonia has been an official EU candidate since 2005. It formally opened accession negotiations on 19 July 2022, and the screening of its legislation against EU law concluded in November 2023. Progress has since slowed over an unresolved bilateral issue with Bulgaria.
For a company hiring there, the practical point isn't a membership date. It is that national law, including data protection, continues to be aligned with the EU, and the accession process brings EU funding into infrastructure.
What is the infrastructure and working model like?
Internet and electricity have been reliable in our experience since 2012, which was one of the reasons North Macedonia stood out when I first compared locations.
